Hot Tub Error Codes, What They Mean & How to Fix Them
A flashing code on your spa isn't a mystery, it's the control system telling you exactly what's wrong. Below are the codes we diagnose most across the Wasatch Back and Utah County, what each one means, what you can safely check yourself, and when it's time to call. Most codes resolve to a cheap part or a flow problem, not a new heater.
Stuck? Call 385-588-7757Hot Tub Not Heating
The pump runs but the water won't reach temperature — usually flow, sensors, or a scaled element, not always a dead heater.
Read the No Heat guide →Flow Error
The control system doesn't detect adequate water flow through the heater, so it shuts heating off to protect the element.
Read the FLO / FLC guide →Overheat Error
The system detected water above a safe temperature (often ~108–112°F) and shut down heating to protect you and the equipment.
Read the OH / HOT guide →Dry / Low-Flow Fault
The system thinks there's little or no water in the heater — a more serious cousin of the flow error that fully protects the element.
Read the DR / DRY guide →Temperature Sensor Fault
A temperature or high-limit sensor is reading out of range (open or shorted) — usually a cheap sensor, not the heater.
Read the SN1 / SN2 / SN3 guide →Cold Water / Freeze Codes
The water is well below setpoint (COOL) or the spa detected freezing-risk conditions (ICE) and is protecting itself.
Read the COOL / ICE guide →High-Limit Trip
The high-limit safety sensor cut the heater after sensing excessive element temperature — often from low flow or scale.
Read the HL / HFL / HL guide →Blank Display or No Power
The topside panel is dark or the spa is completely dead — usually a tripped GFCI, a power issue, or a failed board/panel.
Read the No Power / Blank guide →Code Not Listed? We Still Know It.
Every brand labels codes a little differently, Bullfrog, Sundance, Hot Springs, and Balboa-based systems each have their own quirks. If your display is showing something not covered here, call or send us the code and your spa brand. We diagnose the root cause on-site and carry common heaters, sensors, flow switches, and circulation parts on the truck.
Send Us Your Error Code
Tell us the code on your display, your spa brand, and your city, we'll tell you what it means and what's next.
